Castle theatre is based in Wellingborough. My role was Theatre Technician. My responsibility was to help touring clients with their shows. Helping with all technical aspects from lighting to sounds. Counterweight flying and rigging.
The main house seats 500 people and also can be transformed into a cinema.
Sleeping Beauty Panto
I was assigned as ASM(props) for sleeping beauty panto has only recently employed by castle theatre.Also helping during fit up to install all the lighting.
Behind the Scenes
During tech we realised that the Dragon that we got from the hiring company is not the one that we promised. It was a very conned shape dragon.so instead we decided to try to use mood lighting and smoke . To create this magical and scary scene. The scene change into dragon was difficult as well it toke 6 people to do it as bar had to come in at speed. unclip sand bag and attached head. while someone kept wight on the bar as it counterweight flying system.
Oliver Top Hat theatre school
In 2022 the Top hat theatre school produced Oliver. As venue tech we were asked to provide lighting sound mixing .I did the lighting design for it with our standard rigg plus some specials and side lighting. It was an interesting show to programme as we did fit up in the morning and tech in the afternoon. Then show in the evening. So I had to program the whole show in one sitting while they ran through it. It was a bit insane but came out really well.
Also a part of the set are four street lamps. That have practicals in them. I programmed them to flicker. I programmed in way that the flicker does not look robotic. How i compact that is make two different flicker effects then spread across the lights. So next to each other they look random natural flicker. one of the main problems that I found with kids shows is that parents and organisers want the face light really high. If you have to much face light it was washes at the colour losing atmospheric lighting. so its a really fine line.
